Exam Mode & Format
The Departmental Examinations 2026 for ITOs, ITIs, and Ministerial Staff shall be held in Online Mode, in accordance with the Departmental Examination Rules, 2026 (Effective from 2026 Examination onwards).
Subjective Papers: Question papers displayed on computer screens. Candidates record answers in physical answer booklets provided by the Department.
Subjective Papers Include: ITO Paper-IV (Computation of Income and Drafting), ITI Paper-V (Rajbhasha Hindi), and MS Paper-V (Rajbhasha Hindi).
The syllabus is as prescribed in the Departmental Examination Rules, 2026. All In-charge of Examinations must arrange answer sheets for subjective papers and ensure proper examination center setup including sitting arrangements and invigilation.

- T.A. (having passed Computer Test)
- Steno Grade I, II, III
- LDC including Hindi Typist
- Senior T.A.
- All ITIs (for confirmation)
- Office Superintendents
- T.As (already passed MS Exam)
- Sr. T.As (already passed MS Exam)
- Steno Gr. III, II, I (already passed MS Exam)
- ITI (passed ITI Exam)
- Office Superintendent (passed ITI)
- Sr. T.A (passed ITI)
- T.A. (passed ITI)
- Steno Gr. II & I (passed ITI + 5 yrs service)
Application Process
Candidates shall fill the application form online at www.incometaxindia.gov.in. The online application window opens from 23.05.2025 (10:00 AM).
- Read all instructions carefully before filling the form. Only one application form per candidate.
- Upload a scanned passport-size photograph and scanned signature in .jpg format.
- Previous records will be reflected against your roll number. Raise a query if any data is incorrect.
- First-time candidates will be allotted new roll numbers after verification.
- Candidates changing category (PQ→Normal or Normal→Betterment) need prior Directorate approval.
- Retain a copy of the application printout. Do NOT fold, punch or crush the printout.
- Candidates who do not submit a physical printout to the In-charge of Examination will not be permitted to appear, even if they submitted online.
Important Rules & Clauses
- Candidates who have already qualified a paper/examination are not eligible for re-appearing in that paper, except betterment candidates (reserved category who have qualified the entire exam).
- The effective date of passing the Examination is governed by Directorate Instruction F. No. DE/Delhi/Effective Date/DIT/2011/3886 dated 22.12.2011.
- The effective date of passing shall be the date of declaration of result by the Directorate (ITO/ITI) or by the CCIT/CIT In-charge (MS Examination).
- Adhoc employees are not eligible even if they belong to eligible cadres.
- Number of chances is limited to ten for all categories. Verification of chances availed must be done with due care by the In-charge of Examination.
